Friday Car Pic #48

After the Jeep I put up yesterday, I knew what today's pic would be:

(picture from this eBay listing, if you like it and buy it, tell 'em you saw it here!)

Jeep Scrambler. Only made from 1981 to 1986 (when AMC sold Jeep to Chrysler and [mercifully] killed off the rest of AMC). It's essentially a CJ with a long wheelbase and an open bed, although canvas tops that covered the entire back of the vehicle were fairly common.

I have no idea why the Scrambler was so appealing. Well, strike that. I've always loved pickup trucks - I'm currently on my third - and I've also owned three SUVs (including the Mrs.'). The Scrambler combines traits of both, between the bed for carrying stuff and, well, the whole Jeep part of it. Plus it has a removable top. And doors.

Besides, it's a Jeep thing...

That is all.

They were absolute POS!!! Had one for six months, gave it back as a lemon. Thrust angle problems, alignment problems, engine problems...

They weren't thar bad, just swap out the trans, transfer case, axles, reverse the shackles, and fix the rust. The straight 6 was ok......

Make new ones. Make mine with a 16" extended cab, too. I always like having that space behind the seats. Dry n' snug for gear.

Lord knows, we all carry us some gear!
