Friday Car Pr0n #38

Heh. Today's car pic comes from a Facebook status from #1 blogdaughter (her #tbt pic yesterday, actually) and exacerbated by a certain Ambulance Driver...

Yes, it's the Chrysler Cordoba. Of course, what people most remember about the Cordoba was this:

Yes, that's Khan Ricardo Montalban. What's especially telling from that commercial is that the Cordoba is referred to as a "small" car. Given that the Toyota Camry is now considered a full-size car, it's pretty amazing how far we've fallen in a mere 35 years...

For the time period - remember, this is post-emissions and gas crises - the Cordoba and it's Dodge twin, the Magnum (yes, there was a Dodge Magnum before the hemi-powered wagon) had decent power (a 400 ci V8 putting out over 300 HP at a time when most V8s put out under 200) and had a T-roof available.

Plus, it had the rich Corinthian leather...

That is all.

Yep, 'small' car... Now it would be a land yacht!

"Its rich, Corinthian leather cradles your buttocks like my own warm hands..."

- SNL parody from back when?

"Small" car indeed. But man, no one says "Cordoba" or "Corinthian" in the same way. He was the perfect choice for that ad.

The Cordoba was actually a fairly handsome car for that era. Lots of uuuugly American cars built during those dark, dark days.

"Corinthian leather" from "outside Newark, New Jersey":
