Obama to tackle youth sports concussion issue
Concerned that too little is known about the effects of head injuries in young athletes, President Barack Obama is bringing representatives of professional sports leagues, coaches, parents, youth sports players, researchers and others to the White House to help educate the public about youth sports concussions.Dear sweet suffering Vishnu, are you kidding me? Do we really the frelling President of the United States to get involved in childhood concussion issues? REALLY? This is a matter that merits the attention of the leader of the free world? HONEST?
Tackling the issue at a White House summit Thursday, Obama also will highlight pledges of money and other support from the NFL, the National Institutes of Health, the Pop Warner Little Scholars and others to do the research, promote safety and speed development of materials designed to provide better protection.
Look, TheBoy played football in fifth grade. They go through all kinds of training to learn how to hit properly to avoid using their heads (literally). Teams that hit the wrong way are penalized accordingly. There are procedures and such in place. Yes, accidents do happen, but it's fortunately not very often.
This is not the kind of thing we want or need the Federal government to get involved in.
This is everything that is wrong with our society in a nutshell, folks. Here we have a minor issue - children getting concussions from playing football - that is being blown out of proportion until the frelling President decides it's worthy of his time and effort to look into it. We don't need a Federal Concussion Commission. The most we need is for grown men to stop getting obscene salaries for playing a child's game and fostering the insane competitive atmosphere that gets kids pushed into sports too early.
In other words, prepare for the full-on bubble suit for anyone under the age of 26 in the next decade...
That is all.
