I'm Glad All The Real Problems Have Been Solved...

For the love of Pete, really?

Obama to tackle youth sports concussion issue
Concerned that too little is known about the effects of head injuries in young athletes, President Barack Obama is bringing representatives of professional sports leagues, coaches, parents, youth sports players, researchers and others to the White House to help educate the public about youth sports concussions.

Tackling the issue at a White House summit Thursday, Obama also will highlight pledges of money and other support from the NFL, the National Institutes of Health, the Pop Warner Little Scholars and others to do the research, promote safety and speed development of materials designed to provide better protection.
Dear sweet suffering Vishnu, are you kidding me? Do we really the frelling President of the United States to get involved in childhood concussion issues? REALLY? This is a matter that merits the attention of the leader of the free world? HONEST?

Look, TheBoy played football in fifth grade. They go through all kinds of training to learn how to hit properly to avoid using their heads (literally). Teams that hit the wrong way are penalized accordingly. There are procedures and such in place. Yes, accidents do happen, but it's fortunately not very often.

This is not the kind of thing we want or need the Federal government to get involved in.

This is everything that is wrong with our society in a nutshell, folks. Here we have a minor issue - children getting concussions from playing football - that is being blown out of proportion until the frelling President decides it's worthy of his time and effort to look into it. We don't need a Federal Concussion Commission. The most we need is for grown men to stop getting obscene salaries for playing a child's game and fostering the insane competitive atmosphere that gets kids pushed into sports too early.

In other words, prepare for the full-on bubble suit for anyone under the age of 26 in the next decade...

That is all.

He's just highlighting the issue to hurt Hillary's chances in 2016

And he's not even engaging in any kind of leadership on the issue - he's jumping on a bandwagon that's already been rolling for several years now.

I had a continuing education class that covered this 3 or 4 years ago. The people who need to know about the issue - grade school coaches, college team trainers, and EMS crews - are already getting the training they need to deal with this, and have been for a while.

He just wants to look like he's "doing something", and this issue is one he can hand off to the White House event staff so that he doesn't have to do anything but show up for the event, smile, and maybe make a short speech and parrot some talking points. One afternoon, he gets his PR points for the week, and he's done.

This looks like a job for First Lady-man!

Seriously, if Mrs. Obama is such a champion of health and fitness, this should be her show.

At least he's getting closer to the level of his (in)competence.

Yes, it's a serious issue that we need to address.

Is it a FEDERAL issue?

Oh. Hell. No.

These are the same people who won't let kids go trick-or-treating anymore.

It's the Seinfeld Presidency. Important matters are sidelined (or royally loused up), with laser-like focus on trivial matters.

Helmets for kids? This requires the immediate attention of the President!

An American ambassador tortured to death, and three others killed while heroically covering the escape of dozens of others, because of the security they asked for and never got? "What difference, at this point, does it make?"
