Too Cool Not To Share...

Skidmark sends in something that looks like it may be too much fun...

From the looks of the RC planes, they look like minimalist efforts, a styrofoam body with a simple engine and RC controls. There appear to be reactive targets on the underside to score hits, and it looks like the shot doesn't actually penetrate the plane part. Would be all kinds of fun to try something like that, I have to admit. Ambulance Driver schooled me on shooting clays out in Colorado a couple years ago, and while I can't match his prowess, I didn't do too badly (when I remembered to take the safety off, that is...).

I think the guy that owns the plane would get ticked off if I chased it down and stabbed it with the bayonet once it was down, though...

That is all.

I've seen ads for this service. They'll come to your group event and let you shoot their planes. I figured that even if the birdshot didn't kill the plane it'd knock it out of the sky, but I guess not.

The reactive targets are a nice touch.

R/C planes have been present, as live targets, at the Big Sandy shoot in AZ for many years.

Though I don't think there is much in the way of birdshot fired at those planes.

Come to think of it, I better start loading now :-)

There's a group out west that does this with machineguns. They went to building teh planes out of styrofoam and just attaching the inimal amount of motor, receiver, and servos to make it work, and almost always get the pricey bits back in working order, even shooting full caliber machineguns.
