Guess I can't get away from shady politics...
Virginia Gov. McAuliffe rerouted funds for inaugural
The Virginia legislature years ago banned governors from donating excess inauguration funds to political causes, but that hasn’t stopped Gov. Terry McAuliffe from finding a way to route $211,000 from his inaugural fund back to his election campaign and the Virginia Democratic Party, disclosure records show.Yes, the man who rented out the Lincoln Bedroom for Bill Clinton then lined his own nest with proceeds from Global Crossing is involved in shady campaign funds issues. Get out the shocked faces. You see, rules are for other people, and by "other people" we of course mean "Republicans." The local news here during the last campaign mentioned Bob McDonnell allegedly receiving gifts once or twice - an hour - but were strangely silent on Global Crossing.
Mr. McAuliffe’s aides say the two $78,000 checks his inaugural committee sent to his campaign committee along with a $55,000 check to the state Democratic Party were expenditures for the rental of email lists. But campaign finance analysts told The Washington Times that the costs of the email rentals appeared to be exorbitant, and critics suggest the transactions look like an end run around the state prohibition.
Now, to be clear, I don't think McAuliffe did anything technically illegal. I'm sure he "rented" the e-mail addresses in accordance with all campaign finance regulations - and the fact that there's no dollar amount on the cost of that "rental" never figured into the calculations. And monkeys might fly out of my posterior, too.
Just glad to see that it's not just MA Speakers of the House that can engage in shenanigans...
That is all.
