Friday Car Pr0n #11

Hmmm. Should I call it something different if the car pr0n is really truck pr0n?

That's a 1978 Dodge Lil Red Express Truck. At the time, this was the fastest American-made production vehicle, due to the "loophole" that trucks did not have to conform to the same emissions standards as cars. It had a Mopar 360 Police interceptor V8 under the hood putting out a whopping 225 horsepower - and that was the fastest for the late 1970s...

It's really kind of funny. The 2014 Ram starts out with a 3.6L V6 engine that puts out 305 horsepower. The 5.7L V8 is rated for 395 horsepower, a power-to-cubic inch ratio better than 1:1, which was the holy grail for hot rodders in the late 1960s/early 1970s. Even the Hemi gets 22 MPG on the high way, and the V6 is rated for 25 MPG - both trucks will give anything from the muscle car era a good run for the money, and do it with about double the gas mileage to boot.

Cars are certainly better built today, but they just aren't as cool IMHO...

That is all.

I miss my '78 Trans Am, 400 6.6 T/A.

The late 70's MOPAR truck 'Bulldog' grilles were always my favorite!

EXACTLY. That T/A would most likely get the stuffing kicked out of it by a Nissan Altima with the 3.5L V6 today - but damn, which car *looks* better?

I've owned one of every (major) body style Ram since 1972.

1993 Ram
1998 Ram
2007 Ram

42 years of Mopar trucks in three vehicles... :)

The Fast and Loud guys rebuilt a 78 T/A...put a new motor and modern breaks on it. Dang wish I was wealthy enough to get them to build one for me.

Mine was brown with a Gold Screaming Chicken...Gold honeycomb T-top (which back then was a blessing...they leaked).

Once a friend of mine unplugged two spark plugs as a "joke"...thinking the car wouldn't start. I could tell my car didn't have the power it should have, but the 400 kept running right along. :-)
