Union seeks severance for teacher convicted of raping student
A teacher’s union in Michigan is fighting to get a $10,000 severance package for a convicted child molester whose case that drew outrage earlier this year when his former school colleagues pleaded with a judge to sentence him lightly. They don't give the age of the student in question. Another story lists the boy as an eighth grader. That same story also indicates that the family of the boy has faced threats after standing up to this teacher - and the entire school system that is, incredulously, supporting him and asking for reduced sentence. Now, with only one story supporting the "family has been attacked" angle, I'm a little leery - especially in light of other sensational stories that have proven false.
Neal Erickson, 38, pleaded guilty in May to raping a young boy over the course of three years — from 2006 to 2009 — and was sentenced to 15-30 years in prison. The prison term came over the pleas of seven of Erickson's former fellow teachers at Rose City Middle School, including Sally Campbell, who said in a letter to the judge that “Neal made a mistake. He allowed a mutual friendship to develop into much more."
But the facts are pretty concrete that this scumbag raped a 14 year old boy and has the support of his fellow teachers. As for the union seeking severance pay, well, that's a union doing what unions are supposed to do. I don't really fault them for that. The teachers supporting this piece of shit, though, deserve to burn in hell alongside him. He didn't "make a mistake" - he committed a very serious crime.
How much do you want to bet those same teachers would be calling for heads on pikes for a teacher found with a firearm on school grounds?
That is all.
