Graham: Selectman could use refresher on Constitution
“We’re from the government and we’re here to inspect your guns!”Got that, folks? This guy wants a mandatory home inspection if you dare to own guns. Now, since if they announced the inspection you'd undoubtedly make sure everything was hunky-dory, it can only be assumed that Selectman Hitler, err, Greenfield, wants surprise inspections of any gun owner's house. Yeah, that pesky Constitution. I mean, this isn't even a Second Amendment issue here; it's a Fourth. Unreasonable search? Yeah, I think submitting to a random search for exercising a Constitutional right is unreasonable.
In America, it sounds crazy. Here in Massachusetts, it’s just another day in liberal paradise.
Last week, Swampscott Selectman Barry Greenfield proposed the idea of mandatory home inspections for the town’s 600 licensed gun owners. He mentioned the Newtown massacre. He mentioned children’s safety.
All you patchouli-smelling hoplophobes, think about this. Imagine how you'd feel if the government in your town decided that - in the interest of the War on Drugs - they were going to conduct random warrantless searches of any home that might contain pseudoephedrine. Or, even better, any house that had an internet connection was going to be searched so that they could check and make sure you weren't downloading child pornography.
Just because you hate guns doesn't mean you should lose sight of the big picture. Cheering on the sidelines as the jackbooted thugs go door-to-door checking on those knuckle-dragging gun owners might seem like a grand idea, but wait until the holy rollers get in power and want to check to make sure you're not using contraceptives. What? Never happen? I'll wager that the concept of door-to-door searches with no probably cause for the unpardonable sin of owning a firearm might seem impossible to someone from 1950...
Bad ideas are bad ideas whether you disagree with the premise or agree wholeheartedly...
That is all.
