Just When You Think They've Hit Rock-Bottom...

Stupid criminals will grab a jackhammer and eagerly commence digging. Reader Ed sends in this story of a truly brain-dead criminal.

Theft of DARE jar from East Bridgewater police station caught on video
EAST BRIDGEWATER — A 27-year-old Brockton man paid a recent visit to the East Bridgewater police station. But police said he wasn’t in any real trouble until he tried to leave – with a jar of donations he swiped from the lobby.

Police first received a call from a resident that a man and woman were loitering near her yard, and requested they be picked up and fill out a no-trespassing order.
There's a video link in the story. This guy puts the "dumb" in "dumb criminal". This dude couldn't have been more obvious if he had painted a 3' X 5' sign that said "I'M GOING TO STEAL THAT JAR". Now, I live in a small town. Maybe things are done differently in bigger towns out there, but we have video surveillance at the police station. You can see the monitor behind the glass. Hell, the camera is evident, too. Even if you couldn't see the camera or the monitor, wouldn't you at least refrain from stealing a donation jar from a police station just out of general principle?

He's 27 years old and has a long criminal record. Any bets on how many picoseconds he spent in jail before being released on personal recognizance? Isn't it funny how so many of these career criminals seem to be out walking the streets when their records indicate that they should be serving a sentence or two? Yet there are people out there that honestly think passing more gun laws will make us safe from criminals - we can't keep people in jail when they steal from a police station, but yet telling folks that they can only put 7 bullets in a magazine designed for 10 will magically reduce shooting deaths...

Why, it's almost like they want criminals out roaming the streets or something...

That is all.

The commercial at the video link came out just fine, the video inside the police station was a black screen - that was it.

At less than 14,000 people, according to the 2010 US Census, East Bridgewater hardly qualifies as "big city":
