Police: Schuylkill County homeowner shot and killed intruder
A Schuylkill County homeowner shot and killed a man who had broken into his house Saturday, and authorities are investigating whether the homicide was justified, state police said. This is another one of those instances where the "right" thing to do and what I would most likely do aren't the same thing. The "right" thing to do, from a legal perspective, is to call the police and remain outside the residence (or even leave). It's safest, it's the option that leaves you the most legal freedom, and puts you in the least amount of risk both physically and legally. By letting the police clear the house, if there's a violent criminal inside, they can do the putting down.
The East Brunswick Township homeowner and his girlfriend surprised the intruder about 5:30 p.m. after returning home at 22 Steep Mountain Road, police said.
Realistically, though, I think it's one of those cases where adrenaline and anger kick in. Someone kicking in your door and stealing your stuff is a violation of your most sacred right: the right to be secure in your own home. It's only natural that you'd want to check things out, and I really can't fault the homeowner for giving into the instincts that say [my] castle has been violated. I need to check this out NOW.
Here's hoping they'll "no-bill" the homeowner and the goblin's family doesn't sue him into the poorhouse...

That is all.
