Resident kills armed intruder in Wolf Creek apartments
RALEIGH — A tenant in a student apartment complex in West Raleigh shot and killed an armed intruder early Saturday, police said.
Vincent Reed Bellamy, 23, told police the intruder broke into his apartment and held a handgun to his face. Bellamy was able to retrieve his own handgun and shot the man, who was identified as Trevor Anders Herne, 35.
They don't expect charges to be filed, so we'll call this a good shoot. The reporting is, as Dead Goblin Count stories typically are, very light on specifics. We know that the apartment was broken into and the person doing the breaking in got shot dead, but little else. It is interesting that this was a "student apartment complex" - I wonder if the intruder thought that he would not run into resistance by choosing that particular building?

If that was his thinking, he obviously thought wrong - dead wrong...

Dead Goblin Count: 424

That is all.

Official college maintained student housing? Almost certainly a gun free zone if so.

I know that was the case, even for married student housing (family apartments), back in my Screw of IL days.

Private, off-campus housing targeted marketed to students from several area colleges and universities, so no university mandate civil rights suppression such as infringing the right to keep and bear arms. All residents must undergo criminal background checks to live there, so there are no "felons in possession" in residence.
