What A Difference A Year Makes...

Jacqueline in Texas sends in this story. What a marked contrast to the recent brouhaha in Florida, no?

Man shot at teen's birthday party
Atascocita - A 16-year-old girl's birthday party ended in tragedy when one of the guests was shot multiple times.
Investigators were called out to a home on Oak Walk at Long Timber in Atascocita around 12:15 a.m. Sunday morning after receiving reports about a possible shooting.
We're really working the technicalities, aren't we? Trayvon Martin was a poor boy, gunned down by George Zimmerman, but this victim is a man at a whole year older. Now, yes, technically, the 18 year old is a legal adult, blah blah blah, but it's interesting to see the change in semantics depending on how they want the story to read. When they want to gin up controversy, the 17 year old is a child, a boy, a fragile youngster thrown to the wind in the hot blaze of racism.

When it doesn't serve that purpose - when it's an uncontested illegal shooting performed by someone ineligible to own a firearm and won't push for gun control - the human a mere 365 days older is left at "man". There's no racism to ramp up here - this is another ho-hum case of black-on-black violence, nothing to see here. The young man shot is lumped in with the hundreds shot in Chicago, also by people that have no business owning guns. His assault and near-murder doesn't serve any agendas - they can't push repealing "Stand Your Ground" laws or concealed carry when it's a thug shooting another thug - so it goes unreported by the mainstream media.

You'd think by now they'd have broken the knob off the "selective outrage" machine, don'tcha?

That is all.

Old NFO, that's a rhetorical question, isn't it? You KNOW why.
