A suspect wanted in the brutal New Jersey home invasion that was captured on a nanny cam was arrested Friday, authorities said.Ah. It took me a second. They arrested him in NY. The crime happened in NJ. Hence the FBI - across state lines. Gotcha. I'm going to go out on a limb here. I'm going to bet that Custis has a long rap sheet, that he's out on parole for other violent crimes, and that he had no business whatsoever being out on the street. Call it a hunch if you will; I don't buy that guys my age just randomly decide to go out and beat up suburban housewives with no provocation one day.
The Essex County prosecutor's office said 42-year-old Shawn Custis was arrested in Manhattan by the prosecutor's office and the FBI. Custis faces charges of attempted murder, robbery, burglary and child endangerment. A judge set bail at $750,000.
Now, he's being charged with attempted murder. Time will tell if he's actually convicted of it, in which case he might actually spend more than a year in jail; smart money's on attempted murder being a bargaining chip to get him to cop to breaking and entering. I'd be shocked if this guy does more than six months for this. Right now everyone's up in arms - in a year, when this winds its way through the court system, it'll be long forgotten about, he'll get a slap on the wrist and released with time served. I really hope I'm wrong, but we see this far too often to expect that anything resembling justice will be done.
Justice, in this case, being the woman being handed a baseball bat, full immunity, and twenty minutes alone with this POS.
That is all.
