We'll See How This Plays Out...

Arrest made in New Jersey home invasion caught on nanny cam
A suspect wanted in the brutal New Jersey home invasion that was captured on a nanny cam was arrested Friday, authorities said.

The Essex County prosecutor's office said 42-year-old Shawn Custis was arrested in Manhattan by the prosecutor's office and the FBI. Custis faces charges of attempted murder, robbery, burglary and child endangerment. A judge set bail at $750,000.
Ah. It took me a second. They arrested him in NY. The crime happened in NJ. Hence the FBI - across state lines. Gotcha. I'm going to go out on a limb here. I'm going to bet that Custis has a long rap sheet, that he's out on parole for other violent crimes, and that he had no business whatsoever being out on the street. Call it a hunch if you will; I don't buy that guys my age just randomly decide to go out and beat up suburban housewives with no provocation one day.

Now, he's being charged with attempted murder. Time will tell if he's actually convicted of it, in which case he might actually spend more than a year in jail; smart money's on attempted murder being a bargaining chip to get him to cop to breaking and entering. I'd be shocked if this guy does more than six months for this. Right now everyone's up in arms - in a year, when this winds its way through the court system, it'll be long forgotten about, he'll get a slap on the wrist and released with time served. I really hope I'm wrong, but we see this far too often to expect that anything resembling justice will be done.

Justice, in this case, being the woman being handed a baseball bat, full immunity, and twenty minutes alone with this POS.

That is all.

I don't know, Jay; Home Invasion tends to get the DA's wife up in arms. This Dude (First Person Singular usage of the generic Sum Dude, you know) might not get off so easily This Time.

I agree he likely won't go down for Attempted Murder though.
