3 people caught on camera stealing gun from store
HOOKSETT, N.H. —Hooksett police are searching for three people accused of stealing a gun from a business.
Police said a woman and two men stole a 357 Sig Sauer semi-automatic handgun from Riley's Sport Shop.
Surveillance cameras show the woman reaching around one of the cabinets and removing a gun and knife.
Police said she then walked to the back of the store and cut off the security tag on another gun. She and the two men are seen leaving the store with a gun.
All parties involved are in for some nasty times. The people that stole the firearm can be prosecuted at the federal level for stealing a firearm from a licensed FFL. And the FFL could come under scrutiny from the ATF for the security or lack thereof. Unless, of course, they can prove that the stolen gun is going to Mexican cartels, that is...
It will be interesting to see how this plays out (although it's not like there will ever be any followup to speak of). I'd be willing to bet money that when (not if) they are caught, there will be no federal charges and the state charges will be pleaded down to misdemeanor theft. Something tells me that if we really did prosecute to the fullest extent of the law - say, adding the 5 year federal sentence to be served consecutively with the state charges - that folks might think twice before pulling a stupid stunt like this.
And while I'm dreaming, I'd like to see .22LR available again...
That is all.
