Some quick initial impressions of the NRA's 142nd Annual meeting...
Houston = much, MUCH better Friday traffic and parking than Pittsburgh. The city of Houston did a fantastic job of getting a large city ready for a big convention from a traffic and parking perspective. Security is impressive, too - and we ran into a cop who's actually a shooter on the walk in.
Venue = HUGE. Is Texas. Everything is bigger in Texas, including the convention center. The press room is enormous, and even then it's standing room only. Ran into Lars and he told me that this year saw a 30% increase in credentialed media. The NRA continues to impress me with how they've reached out to bloggers.
Weather = WTF, Houston? I left Massachusetts and 55 degree weather. I got to Houston it was 48 degrees. I came to Texas with one jacket expecting not to need it. I brought swim trunks for G-d's sake!
Nutball outside IAH = still trying to figure out what happened. The shooting itself happened about two hours before I landed, so they had everything cleared up by the time I got here. Media reports are still pretty vague, but it appears only the bad guy got deadified, so the blood dancers can't use it.
That's about it for now - look for pictures later.
That is all.
