Money, Mouth, Etc.

Got this presser from the NSSF last night:

NSSF Statement on Management of the SHOT Show®
The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for the firearms industry, today announced that it has reached an agreement with Reed Exhibitions to terminate the agreement the parties had for the management of the SHOT Show®. Accordingly, effective immediately, Reed Exhibitions will no longer be manager and producer of the SHOT Show.

Reed Exhibitions provided excellent service to NSSF and the customers of the SHOT Show for more than three decades, however, the company's decision to restrict the sale of certain types of firearms this year at its consumer hunting and fishing show -- an event unrelated to NSSF and the SHOT Show -- was in conflict with NSSF's mission to serve the shooting sports industry. As a result, both organizations decided it was in the best interest of the SHOT Show to end their relationship.
Sing it with me, folks. It sucks to be you... It sucks to be yoooouuuu...

That's what happens when you bite the hand that feeds you. Reed Exhibitions stepped in a huge pile of it earlier this year when they banned sporting rifles from their shows, eventually leading to the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show - the largest outdoor show in the US - to be shut down for 2013. When all but a small handful of exhibitors canceled, they realized there was no point in continuing.

I have no idea how big of a client NSSF is, but if SHOT Show is any indication, they were definitely a big one. 75K attendees, hundreds of exhibitors, thousands of square feet of floor space; when you can fill the Sands with gun industry folks and have it wall-to-wall people, that's a pretty major client. And to snub that client by denying the most popular rifle platform in America? Man, that takes tone deaf to a completely new level...

Now Reed Exhibitions can join such luminaries as H-S Precision and Jim Zumbo in the hall of infamy...

That is all.
