All Crimes In New York Have Been Solved!

Because apparently the police have plenty of time on their hands to harass the public. I'm sure most everyone has seen this story, the first prosecution under NY's SAFE Act.

NY man charged with gun magazine violation
ALBANY, N.Y. — State police have charged a 31-year-old Hudson Valley driver with a misdemeanor after he was pulled over and found with two more bullets in his handgun magazine than allowed under New York's new gun control law.
Troopers say Gregory Dean Jr. of Hopewell Junction was stopped for an inadequate light on his license plate about 9:45 p.m. Sunday in New Lebanon.
That's STATE police there, folks. Stopping a car for an "inadequate" license plate light. That's what we like to call a "fishing expedition" right there. Apparently the state of crime in New York state is so low that the police have time on their hands to check out the adequacy of license plate lights. And pull people over if they feel the lights don't meet their stringent standards.

And look, there's that handy SAFE act. OMG, he loaded two more rounds in his magazine. Of course, the irony is that the police officers were most likely carrying pistols with 15 - 17 rounds in the magazine; but that will be lost on the "four legs good, two legs bad" crowd that pushes for civilian disarmament while granting police new and exciting toys to play with. At least they're not illegally wiretapping journalists' phones. Yet.

"So, what are you in for?"

"I had two rounds too many in my handgun"

Yeah, New York, way to lead the nation in useless BS Nanny-state feel-good craptastic laws...

That is all.

Nope, not all.

This guy's a douchebag. He had a suspended licence for failure to pay child support, AND was pulled over for a non-functioning vehicle light (how many of us swear at jackasses who don't use their turn signals?). So we have a deadbeat dad driving a jalopy illegally, with a loaded semi-auto rattling around in his front seat.

This hee-haw is NOT who we want as the poster child for gun rights.

Once the trooper pulled this loser over and started digging, they naturally laid into him with everything they could find on the spot. The NY law is insane, but hey, if it's on the books as a LAW, and the police have to uphold the LAW, then I can't think of a better asshole to be hit with the LAW.

As we say in Chicago, this guy deserved to be "tuned up".

If you're a New York State resident, and you're driving your own car, the NY State Police can tell from your plates that you have a handgun permit, before they decide to pull you over. No?

Walk on two legs not on four
To walk on four legs breaks the law
What happens when we break the law?
What happens when the rules aren't there?
We all know where we go from there
To the house of pain

Bad law. Aided police in stacking charges. There is a difference between stacking realistic charges and stacking BS law charges.

So what probable cause does LE have for counting your rounds.

Even if they unload your mag in a stop - for "safety" I would think that counting would be a no-no?

I know there was talk of it, but did the asshats in the legislature ever ACTUALLY clear up the 'cops aren't exempt' issues in the law?

If not then it would be interesting to see if those cops were indeed packing more than 7...

To your first commenter, Douche bags don't get equal consideration under the law now?

I don't give a flying shit what you do in Chicago ( a perfectly good example of a bad example). No matter how much he deserved getting caught, that attitude gets us Jim Crow laws.

It's still a BS law that can't be overturned soon enough.

The same NYSP that put out the statement lamenting that they would have to enforce it.

... Then they came for the douchebags, and I said nothing, for I wasn't a douchebag...

Just something to ponder.

The Constitution doesn't stop working because we think the defendant sucks.

Or at least, thats the way it should be.
