Update...

By now, most folks have heard the news out of Boston. A person or persons, reasons yet unknown, planted numerous bombs (four at last count) near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Two detonated approximately 2:45 PM Eastern time.

At last count, 12 dead, 50+ injured.

To the best of my knowledge, everyone I know in and around the Boston area are fine. My family - my sister was AT the marathon helping out but had left minutes before - is fine; ditto the Mrs. The other MA Squirrel is fine as is his Mrs.

Don't know how this is going to shake out going forward, but speculation is already running rampant. The conspiracy theorists on the left are saying it's right wing anti-government extremists using tax day for the lynchpin. Haven't heard any of the right wing theories yet but they're certain to be forthcoming.

Latest word out is a Saudi national in custody. I am reluctant to believe ANYTHING at this early point - the media has repeatedly been shown its own behind in their quest to be first rather than right. If true, it does speak to the effectiveness of the War on Terror that this DIDN'T look like Breslan, London, or Madrid.

Thanks to everyone who called, texted, and IM'd checking in on us - I love my tribe and all in it.

That is all.

Three places I'd recommend for updates:

https://twitter.com/alertnewengland

https://twitter.com/MassEMA

and there's a Reddit thread with updates here:

Stay at home, do not use phones (if you have to, text instead of calling if possible).

Thanks for the update. Don't know what I'd do without my Squirrel Report.

Stay safe.

I wouldn't assume this to be an int'l terrorist threat. It's tax day,a holiday in Boston, and despite 2 bombs going of,they were rather small.I'd lean towards a homegrown, such as the unibomber,or maybe a diversion to concentrate investigators elsewhere.Doesn't seem well planned or high budget to me.

Don't get your news from the NY Post. In this case they exaggerated everything. Just more craptastic reporting from the nitwit media.
