One Month From Today...

...actually, one month from right about now, to be precise, I'll be on a plane about to fly down to Houston, Texas for the 142nd Annual Meeting of the National Rifle Association. The meeting runs Friday, May 3rd through Sunday, May 5th, and I'll be in town from late Thursday through Sunday to cover the goings on, drool over the hardware, and - most importantly - catch up with old friends and meet new ones.

This year's meeting promises to be chock full of gunnie goodness - there are a lot of gunnies in Texas, as you may well imagine -  and I'm looking forward to meeting up with a bunch of new folks (as well as connecting with old friends, of course). There's been a bunch of events proposed, some formal, some not; I'm looking forward to exploring Houston a bit - I've flown into Houston on connecting flights on numerous occassions but never actually left the airport. It's going to be a good time!

So, who will be joining me in Houston for the NRA Convention next month?

That is all.

I can't go, but I've been to Houston once for a conference and it was fun. It's odd to drive for 20 minutes and still not get anywhere.

Be careful when you return your rental car. Read the signs. When I went to return mine the driver in front of me drove in through the rental lot's exit. You know those gates that say "severe tire damage - do not back up"? Yeah, all four tires. Sounded like a pair of 12 gauge shotguns firing in unison.

The USS Texas is always worth seeing.

I'll be there; hopefully I won't contract the TradeShow HIV that I picked up at SHOT.

I wholeheartedly recommend Papasitos for their unique combination of tex-mex AND wonderfully hygienic atmosphere. It's not far from the airport and Deer Park. Ignore the friendly and cold-beer-having nudie bar 2 doors down. We're too old for such things now.

I'll see you there, too. Driving in Friday morning. Don't know Houston as well as DFW or Austin, so I'll have to hit up my BIL for sites to see....and avoid.

Remember....not in the face....

Pappasitos is to Tex Mex as Sizzler is to The Capitol Grill. It's not a far step down from Pappasitos to Taco Bell.

Like most regional foods, the best is found at the non-chain, non-franchise places.

Even with a franchise, I'd take the semi-fast food Taco Cabana over Pappasitos!

And I'm not anti Pappa's restaurants. Pappa's Steakhouse on Westheimer is one of the best in the Nation, bar none.

But, their take on Tex Mex.... yechh!

I'll post some good recommendations here in the days to come.
