NOPD: suspect shot, killed by homeowner
New Orleans, La. - The NOPD is investigating a shooting in the 1500 block of N. Broad Street that left one man dead. The police gave chase, and the suspect ducked into a nearby house to evade questioning. Apparently the folks inside the house took offense at the intrusion, and a struggle ensued. One of the residents grabbed a firearm and shot the intruder, who later died of his injuries. It boggles my mind that there are people out there who would make it harder for people to defend themselves; even more so in one's own home. Every time you hear someone talk about Castle Doctrine, this is what they mean - if they oppose Castle Doctrine, they oppose you being able to defend yourself against intruders.
Police say a homeowner shot a suspect who entered the home without permission.
Around 2:15pm, two NOPD bicycle officers were unloading their bikes when they were alerted by citizens of a person that was bloody and acting irate in the street.
So, when a person with blood all over them breaks into your house at 2 in the morning while running from the cops, your choices boil down to cower in the corner, hope the cops get their soon, or make them a cup of coffee. Doesn't that sound positively enlightened? You'll be the most tolerant and diversity-loving corpse in the morgue. It's just too bad that they won't be content with only disarming themselves...
At least, for now, the homeowners can win.
