Cops: Honor student killed by Chicago gang members
CHICAGO — Chicago police say two gang members charged in the death of a 15-year-old honor student mistook her and her friends for members of a rival gang and attacked the group in retaliation for a shooting that injured one of them over the summer.
Hadiya Pendleton died after being shot in a park about a mile from the Chicago home of President Barack Obama on Jan. 29, just days after she performed during his inauguration festivities in Washington. Her death was among dozens of homicides in Chicago last month, though her background and ties to Obama thrust her death into the national headlines. In Illinois, the only state in the union that does not allow concealed carry of some sort; in Chicago, which up until a few years ago outlawed handguns entirely; in one of the most restrictive areas of the country for gun owners, a teenager got ahold of a handgun and used it to murder another teenager. The forces aligned against freedom would tell you that the gun is at fault, as though the handgun used in this shooting shot out mind rays that forced the shooter to pick it up, have his friend drive him to the park, and then run towards a group of people he didn't know while pulling the trigger.
IOW, he's training for the LAPD, but I digress.
Yes, by all means, blame an inanimate object. Smear every gun owner in the United States as wanting more dead kids. Propose more and more gun laws that will only serve to make firearm ownership more onerous and burdensome to the good, law-abiding people. All the while, gang bangers that shoot other gangbangers are caught with guns and given a slap on the wrist. But it's the fault of the NRA and law-abiding gun owners.
Make the legal system a sick joke, where criminals who use firearms in crime plead those charges away, serving a tiny fraction of their sentence. Put hardened criminals out on the street in weeks rather than years. Make doing time a badge of honor for gang members, a further initiation into the rough-and-tumble world of the gang culture, a mark of "respect" for having been caught, convicted, and sent to prison. Whatever you do, don't put repeat offenders away for long stretchs so they can't continue their crimes.
Firearms are an easy target. It's easy to wave an AR-15 around on TV, calling it a "weapon of war" (even though the guns our soldiers use are select-fire weapons we cannot legally own) and claiming that "high capacity assault clips" allow "spray firing from the hip". Know that the supplicant media will never call you on your claims, even the laughable one about the barrel shroud being the shoulder thing that goes up. Stand in the blood of the innocents screaming for Congress to "DO SOMETHING", all the while knowing full well that the laws you propose wouldn't have stopped the carnage anyways.
In the meantime, you let gangbangers who break dozens of laws out with a slap on the wrist, then wonder why the murder and violent crime rates skyrocket...
That is all.
