Um... HOW???

Skoda Auto reports record sales in 2012
PRAGUE — Czech carmaker Skoda Auto AS says its unit sales rose by 6.8 percent in 2012 to reach a record high.
Skoda Auto, which is owned by Germany's Volkswagen AG, says in a statement Friday it sold 939,200 cars last year, compared with 879,200 cars in 2011, the previous record high. The company expects further growth in the years to come.
Over 900K cars? That look like this???

I mean, I thought the Pontiac Atzek was ugly. The Skoda Roomster makes it look positively stylish. They do receive excellent reliability reviews from owners, but I suspect that's in a "too ugly to die" fashion.

Someone's gotta be buyin' these monstrosities - I just wonder who...

That is all.

Yoo-ro-peans is who. Need I say more?

Almost all their other cars look perfectly normal.

And Jeremy Clarkson likes the Roomster...

That's no uglier than a Nissan Cube or a Honda Element. Probably made to fill the same need: max possible cargo space on a compact-car platform.

Also, Skoda means it's being marketed to Eastern Europeans, a.k.a. ex-Soviet client states. Not so long ago, the only car those poor benighted souls could buy was a Trabant.

Skodas have a good reputation for reliability in the UK and you're buying Audi/VW technology on the cheap.

Their little pocket-rockets are great fun to drive, and their diesel engine cars run forever on a cup of fuel. My 12 year old audi diesel returns 50 mpg and the new diesel engines are way better than that.

Saw them everywhere in Israel back in 1997.

Looks like they've improved the cosmetics quite a bit since that time. Ohhh, yes.

Very practical, though, where gas is expensive and parking spaces are tiny.

Where's the rest of it? The back half is missing.

Oh, I get it. The end is flat so you can stand it up in the corner of the garage when you're not using it.

No, no, no...nothing ever was or will be as fugly as the Aztek...

This...this looks like they had two different cars, cut them in 1/2...and glued different ends together.

Europe and Middle East... They don't care what it looks like as long as it rolls...

What they said above:
a) this is one model out of many, and the many are all standard VW/Audi stuff -- hyper-efficient yet quick off the mark turbo-diesel engines, good handling, high reliability...
It's mechanically mostly an Audi A4, but much cheaper.

b) it is a tiny car by American standards, yet stow the rear seats and one could carry a american-sized clothes washer upright, or a bathtub.

+1 to LCB and Old NFO.

I like small cars but need headroom and want cargo capacity. I'd happily drive one. I don't care much about styling, but this is miles better than the hideous plastic-clad Aztec.

Lot's of them in Poland and Romania and they are all driven by folks who think they should have won the World Rally Championship.

Try looking up the Skoda Octavia thats what they sell a lot of just about 75% are used as taxis over here as they are so good.

'3 sold' is still more than last year's record breaking '2 sold'!

nbc and DOuglas2 have the right of it. That roomster, fully loaded, starts at around 60% of the price of a Honda Civic.

Eh, it ain't pretty, but if someone handed me the keys to one, I wouldn't say no.

Skoda sells pretty well in China- it's one of the 'bargain brands' there, like Peugeot.
