Utah school cancels Elvis musical after complaint about nature of song
WEST JORDAN, Utah – Utah school district has cancelled a high school play that uses Elvis Presley's music after a complaint about a sexually suggestive song.
Jordan School District officials announced plans Wednesday to scrap Herriman High School's production of "All Shook Up," saying it could be offensive.Cue Mormon jokes in 3... 2... 1...
I think it's amazing that, nearly 35 years after the man's death, his songs are still causing controversy. That's one hell of a legacy. There have been many music related outrages - the 2LiveCrew "Me So Horny"; Judas Priest's music allegedly inciting suicide, "F*** the Police"; etc. but it's The King who makes waves more than 50 years after his song was released. "All Shook Up" was released in 1957 - my parents were barely older than my son is now - and it's still in headlines. Pretty amazing!
And, one that's not quite as funny, out of the Old Line State:
First grader suspended for making gun gesture with finger at Maryland school
A 6-year-old boy was suspended from his Maryland elementary school for making a gun gesture with his finger, pointing it at a classmate and saying "pow."
The Washington Post reports the first grader's parents are fighting to remove the disciplinary action, which the school said was due to the child making a "threat" to shoot another student in December, from the child's record. And there's our friend Zero Tolerance again. Remember, folks, when you hear "Zero Tolerance", replace it with "Zero Brains" and you'll still be correct. The school is claiming that he was warned previously to stop but continued to pretend. So they suspended him for, well, being a six year old. Yep, indoctrinate early and often, else how will you get pliable proles?
It does not bring me pleasure to report that other states are just as stupid as MA...
That is all
Thanks to the BLNN for both these reports, although several other people also sent in the MD story...
