So, About That Boycott...

One of my Scout dads sent in this link:

ESOS Boycott Supporters
Here is a list of celebrities, sponsors, and vendors who have pulled out of the Reed Exhibits Eastern Sports and Outdoors Show in Harrisburg, PA for 2013. The show was set to run from Feb 2-10, 2013 and usually attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors.
The Eastern Sports and Outdoors Show banned all AR-15 pattern rifles from the show in response to the Newtown, CT shootings. The blowback from the pro-freedom community has been positively astonishing. As others have noted, this is by no means going to affect Reed Exhibits all that much; however, I would caution anyone in the area planning to attend the show to check first for rolling tumbleweeds... Major kudos to both the large and the small companies that have pulled out of the show - the large companies have their brand to think of; the smaller companies stand to lose more by skipping such a large show.

As I've noted here on my blog, AR-15 pattern rifles are, indeed, useful for hunting. For varmints, small game, and even smaller deer (in legally allowed areas with proper shot placement), the light recoil, inexpensive and (normally) plentiful ammunition, and accuracy of the platform make it very well suited for certain hunting applications - varmints or small predators beware. For Reed to simply write them off because a similar-looking rifle was used in a shooting is unconscionable - blaming an entire group for the actions of an individual; how bigoted.

It's great to see the 2A community coming together over this - this truly is a time where united we stand, divided we fall.

That is all.

UPDATE: LMAO. They canceled the show. Way to cut off your nose to spite your face, Reed Exhibits.

But it gets better: Reed might even lose SHOT Show...

Almost 20% of their vendors dropping out hurt them more then you think. They just canceled the show.

God, I love to see that list. There is a whole cross-section of nomn-gun outdoors stuff that gave a mighty middle-finger to the promoters.

If we link arms, we all might get through this yet.

If the gun grabbers had any sense this development would scare them.

But then if they had any sense they wouldn't be gun grabbers.

They have postponed the show because "the atmosphere of this year’s show would not be conducive to an event that is designed to provide family enjoyment. It is unfortunate that in the current emotionally charged atmosphere this celebratory event has become overshadowed by a decision that directly affected a small percentage of more than 1,000 exhibits showcasing products and services for those interested in hunting and fishing."
I think they should rename it to the Fudd Show because that is evidently their target audience

Jay,
Reed has put out an announcement on their website that ESOS 2013 is postponed. Voting with one's feet works !!!!

The SHOT show you just attended is also managed by Reed, but all exhibits are handlded by the NSSF directly. That said, NSSF approached Reed and voiced its distaste over Reeds actions regarding ESOS. Lengthy discussions between Reed and NSSF have taken place. To quote from an NSSF release,

Because of Reed’s recent actions, NSSF is considering all options regarding the management of future SHOT Shows.

Here's the link to the full statement:
http://www.nssfblog.com/nssf-statement-on-the-eastern-sports-and-outdoor-show/

I think it completely plausible that NSSF will be looking to replace Reed (a British company) for future SHOT shows if NSSF can break their contract with Reed.

Absolutely *LOVE* to see the gun owning community standing together on this one. For too long there has been an arbitrary, completely unnecessary and stupid divide between "sports" gun owners and "other" gun owners. That divide only hurt all of us in the long run. As one of the other commenters said, the anti-freedom people should be very frightened of this development. It's huge.

Hoping they continue to hold the line, I stand with the NSSF and with each of the businesses that made the hard decision on the ESOS. In fact, last night I put my money where my mouth is, and made a series of small purchases from several of the businesses who will be hurt because they made the right choice here.

Hopefully lots of other people will do the same thing and support the businesses that support our freedom.

A minor quibble Jay; AR-15 pattern rifles come in .308 and .458 SOCOM calibers, either of which ought to be good for just about any life form found in the American hemisphere. I understand your intent (I think :)), but I assume non-AR owners are also your target audience too, so ...

Bring SHOT to TEXAS!!

Not to mention 6.5 Grendel and 6.8 SPC are very popular on hogs and it's a rare gun in either caliber that isn't an AR.

"Who really needs an AR-15, anyway?"

They do.
