Al-Jazeera, the Pan-Arab news channel that has struggled to win space on American cable television, has acquired Current TV, Al Gore confirmed Wednesday.
Gore and his partner Joel Hyatt announced the sale in a statement.
"Current Media was built based on a few key goals: To give voice to those who are not typically heard; to speak truth to power; to provide independent and diverse points of view; and to tell the stories that no one else is telling," Gore and Hyatt said.
"Al-Jazeera has the same goals and, like Current, believes that facts and truth lead to a better understanding of the world around us."
I got nothing.
Really, how can you parody this? Al Gore, the man who invented the internet and is trying valiantly to save us all from global warming (while living on a 100 foot long houseboat or a 20-room mansion, mind you), has sold his television station to Al-Jazeera under the guise of spreading facts and truth. I can't make this up. The Onion couldn't make this up. This sounds like something Baghdad Bob would be reporting as coalition tanks rolled around him. Yes, Al-Gor just sold his fledgling television channel to the same station that has lost employees over accusations of biased reporting.
Then again, the man who made "hanging chads" a household phrase might know a thing or two about biased reporting, right Al?
That is all.
