Police: Grandmother stabs granddaughter's attacker inside Hill District home
PITTSBURGH — A grandmother was arrested after police said she stabbed a man who was attacking her granddaughter.
Police said the victim was hitting the woman's granddaughter in their home on Barnett Way in the Hill District Thursday.Okay, so far so good. You make do with the tools you have at hand, and it certainly sounds like it stopped the attack. However, while the article clearly states that the grandmother was arrested, there's no reporting on why. It runs counter to what you'd expect - even in the staunchest anti-self defense places (MA/NY/CA/etc.), defending yourself or your loved ones from attack in your own home is pretty cut-and-dried (no pun intended).
The only thing I can think of is that he was stabbed in the back. This makes sense, though, in that if the grandmother heard the commotion and walked into the room to see him hitting her. She must have gotten him good, because he's still in the hospital listed in critical condition at the tmie of the article. It's classic mama bear type reaction, especially if this is one of the cases where grandma is raising the child as her own. Obviously it wouldn't count as a DGC (no firearm used) if the goblin expired, but it's a perfect example of mindset being key.
Here's hoping that we either hear more info on why grandma was arrested or see her released...
That is all.
