This Ought To Be Interesting...

Pope joins tweeting masses with Pontifex handle
VATICAN CITY — Benedict XVI, the pope known for his hefty volumes of theology, is now trying brevity — spreading the faith through his own Twitter account.
The pontiff will tweet in eight languages starting Dec. 12 using his personal handle (at)Pontifex, responding live to questions about faith during his weekly general audience, the Vatican said Monday.
Now, I understand the desire to drag the Church kicking and screaming into the 21st century. I think that - done well - this could be an excellent tool for helping retain interest in the Church for those raised on a 24/7 information diet. Do I see regular, timely tweets with useful, current information going out? I am less hopeful about that. I suspect/fear it will devolve into little more than fortune cookie-esque dogma and "vote against abortion/assisted suicide/etc." type campaigns.

I also wonder how many nanoseconds will elapse before someone like Anonymous hacks the account and sends inappropriate tweets...

That is all.

I wonder if His Holiness Tweets infallibly?

Only if Tweeting on a matter of Catholic dogma, and only if he specifies that it is intended as an infallible statement for all Catholics.

"OMG, Sister Francesca's 'fish reuben' is the Fri Lent Bomb!"?

Probably not infallible. {LOL}

I hope he doesn't forget his password. I know he can read Latin and Greek, but a Captcha challenge will probably drive him to violence.
