Help A Gunnie Out...

So, my good friend Mopar won my raffle in the Tam fundraiser, and is having a bit of trouble deciding how he wants to start his AR lower. He asks:
I'm having a hard time deciding how to have the lower from Wally engraved. Figured maybe you could toss it out to the tribe for some other ideas/suggestions. Might be fun.
One thought is to go with a Mopar theme. I've used the nick online for 30yrs. Maybe one of the various mopar logos used over the years (I use this one from the 70s on the forums: http://www.westburyjeepchryslerdodge.com/wp-content/uploads/mopar_logo.gif) engraved on the magwell. Selector switch could be PARK/DRIVE or something. Caliber could be listed as .426hemi or 5.7hemi and serial could be something like M0PAR (with zero for letter o).
I like the idea of the Chrysler "star" as the engraving; looks like that would be neat and immediately recognizable to any car buff. As for SAFE/FIRE, I'd say "PARK" and "DRIVE" would work, as would "DODGE" and "RAM" (heh. Mopar has a Dodge Earthf**ker like mine, only in blue, same year even). For the caliber listing, I'm partial to ".318 Dakota" in honor of Ambulance Driver. And for serial? I think that's where 426 or 340 or 383 should come in...

He also suggested an MHI, Dont Tread On Me, or Molon Labe theme, but devoted the vast bulk of the question centered on the MOPAR aspect. MHI and DTOM have the advantage of having the line art already done, of course, and Molon Labe is simple text. MHI has a wide world of options (.223 Chupacabra? "DEAD/UNDEAD"?) and Molon Labe having "COME/TAKE THEM" for SAFE/FIRE would be kinda neat...

So... Give your thoughts - let's help Mopar trick out this lower!

That is all.

At one time I thought of engraving "That's one." for safe, "That's two." for fire, and "That's ENOUGH!" on the trigger.

GM Hydramatic made M16A1's in the late '60s early '70's.

A pentastar logo and calling it a Torqueflite would have a wonderful symmetry to it.

727 is the obvious caliber.

PARK - DRIVE - OVERDRIVE for the selector markings. With overdrive struck through.

While it's fun identifying the caliber options, why would you put it on the lower?

That's an upper receiver thing. He could have 318, 426, AND 5.7 uppers.

I've seen a lower with ¢ in the safe position, $ in the semi position and $$$$$$$$ in the auto.

My safe position would be RUN / TOO LATE.

As for the emblem, I've always been partial to the late 60s, early 70s Triangle emblem. Its a little more esoteric, a little more inside baseball. As for engine references, anything other than the dissappointing (and unfortunately long-lived) 360 is good, but I'm partial to the 383. Or the 413 Max Wedge. For a deeper look, one could find the VIN codes, and apply them to the serial- maybe a location code that holds significance for him, or a model code that represents his favorite car. And if possible, make all the bolts on the left side of the gun lefthanded.

I'd L my AO if it were in .318 :-)

Somewhere I have an old "mopar rapid transit system" badge around, though I have always been partial to the superbee artwork. And yes, I'd toss in a color fill on this one !

Glad you are having fun with the options!

Needs to be Duracoated in MOPAR Blue.

PARK - DRIVE - OVERDRIVE for the selector.

Angus: Heh. My first issue M16A1 was a Hydramatic.

is it too much to wonder if a mopar themed rifle would get a suitable "high impact" paint job ?

sub-lime ? tor-red ? plum crazy ? top banana ? vitamin c?

Roadrunner for the fire position, Wyle E. Coyote for the the safe position?

I would make the "AUTO" position "DAIMLER" but that is just my commentary on their corrupt, inept time owning the company.

LOL, sooooo many choices... :-)

Thanks for the ideas so far!
I am not opposed to painting the furniture a classic Mopar muscle car color if I go with a Mopar theme (or carrying over any other theme to the upper and/or furniture). I think Plum Crazy would look awesome.
I'm really not locked into the Mopar theme though, it was just the first to come to mind. I'm still totally receptive to other ideas, so keep them coming!

Hemi has to appear somewhere on the rifle. The old logos had HEMI with the displacement in cubic inches or liters below it, you could substitute in "5.56." I second the Park, Drive and Overdrive comment above, but do it just like the console symbols on your truck shifter.

My $.02.

How about "Car!" for safe, and "Game On!" for fire?

Or "Shiny" and "Misbehaving"

"Is Gun" for fire, "Is Still Gun" for safe?

I asked Robb to do a graphic of some selector markings once.

A safe for safe
A truck for semi
A car for auto

Well, as long as we're suggesting phrases that you wouldn't want to explain to the jury, I like "Slay them all" for the Fire position. I don't know what goes with that on the Safe position, though. Maybe "Blessed are the peacemakers".
