Two And A Half Weeks...

Um, guys? With Thanksgiving just around the corner, this might not be the best hidin' spot...

That's my front/side yard. They're *maybe* 20 yards out. It's like they *know* it's not hunting season any more. And that even if it was, the shot would be made across a road (towards a road). And less than 500 feet from an occupied dwelling.

Phooey. I hear free-range turkeys are all gamey anyways...

That is all.

What you need to do is train a dog to kill turkeys in the yard and bring them discreetly to the door.

Bonus points if the dog can dress, stuff, and bake them...

I was traveling down (No, REALLY) Turkey Lane the other day and saw two on the roadside. :)

I have heard (only heard, mind you) that you can take cracked corn, place it in a flat baking pan, soak it with gin or vodka, place it outside on the ground where turkeys are known to congregate and they will eat it and pass out shortly thereafter. Thus, an unscrupulous poacher (or someone really in dire need of meat) could retreive them, dispatch them, prepare them and eat them.

I know for a fact that alcohol has that effect on birds. When I was in the Border Patrol (in my previous lifetime)I seized several parrots that had been fed tequila so as to knock them out prior to them being smuggled across the border from Mexico. The intention was to quiet them so as not to be easily detected as contraband.

All the best,
Glenn B

A truly hungry man does not understand "gamey", only that an empty belly can be filled nicely with one of those birds.
