Timing Is Everything...

Heh. Here's a good one for a Friday afternoon...

Cape Man Wins $30.5M Lottery Jackpot After Girlfriend Dumps Him
HYANNIS (CBS) – Sandeep “Sunny” Singh can hardly catch his breath, posing for pictures with a giant check for $30.5 million.
Just two days ago, this newly minted millionaire was busy working two jobs to help his mom pay the bills.
His girlfriend dumped him a couple weeks back. How much do you want to bet there's an attempt at reconciliation? I certainly hope "Sunny" is smarter than that...

Sorry girlfriend - you lost this round...

That is all.

Works two jobs to pay the bills.

Spends money on lottery tickets anyway.

I think she made the right choice. Lottery winners are typically bankrupt within 5 years anyway.

Look again. Works two jobs to help his mom pay the bills.

If he's not struggling to pay his bills, then there's nothing wrong with him keeping a little pocket money aside for himself and spending it any way he wants.

Even if they were his bills, who says the second job isn't enough to push his income up to where he does have that money to spend even while he's putting away some savings? The first job might not cover his expenses by itself, while the second job could be more than enough extra to put him ahead.

If he's spending $50 a week on lottery tickets, that coupld indicate a problem. If he just dropped a buck because he had it to spare, good for him.

I play the lottery like I used to play coin-op video games as a kid.

Every so often, I toss a buck in for the momentary pleasure of anticipating victory.

Of course, just as when I was dropping qwuarters into Centipede or Moon Lander, I don't actually expect to win any money back.

But, unlike video games, I get to fantasize for a couple of minutes about what my gun room and personal range would look like if I win Innumeracy Bingo.

A buck for the Lottery (goes to your local state government to reduce tax load).
A buck in the collection plate (goes to God knows, literally).
Which do you think is throwing your money away?

Works 2 jobs and lives at home (at least that is my interpretation since he was in his sister's room on the computer when he checked his numbers - http://www.boston.com/metrodesk/2012/10/18/jilted-young-man-with-two-jobs-wins-lottery/r2VMHgMrsCFVR3RRdnNXEP/story.html).

Girlfriend obviously didn't care that he had no money when she dated him, I'm not sure why anyone thinks that she was a gold digger - which seems to be the assumption made by some.

Hey all,

Sunny won $4 on a $1 scratch off, then used the $4 to buy four instant quick picks. One of the quick picks was The Mother Lode.

I don't buy tickets, but if Sunny has the scratch in his pocket and buys a couple bucks worth here and there for entertainment value, much like Geodkyt says, then what the hell.

As for Sunny getting dumped by the GF, in a radio interview he said the break up hit hard but his winning ticket softened the blow.

IIRC Singh is a Sikh name.

Good person to win the cash, as culturally they are often ones to invest in business property rather than race cars and nose candy.

Best wishes to him!
