Why Won't Mitt Romney Go on Any Late Night Shows?
With nine days to go until Election Day, political satirists are doing everything they can to squeeze every last laugh out of the campaigns, but Mitt Romney refuses to be the butt of anybody's joke. In the past couple of months, the Romney campaign has balked at invitations from practically every single major late night show, invitations that apparently came from very eager, very accommodating producers.I've got two words for that noise, and the first one is "bull". Romney won't go on late night talk shows because he knows he'll be crucified. The next paragraph talks about how well Obama has been received on these same shows - as though the media and/or Hollywood have been anything even remotely close to even on their coverage/treatment of Obama vs. Romney. One need look no further than the "Romney put his dog in a carrier on the roof of his car" vs. "Obama actually ate dog and wrote about it in his book" to see how Romney would do on David Letterman.
When Bob Dole went on Letterman after losing to Bill Clinton in 1996, we saw a completely different Bob Dole than we had seen on the campaign trail. He was funny, engaging, and even had Letterman laughing along with him. Because he lost. Romney would be a fool for going into such a hostile environment, especially knowing that every operative from Hollywood to New York would be scouring every second of his appearance for a "GOTCHA" moment. The "47%" comment is more than proof of that, and Jimmy Carter's crotch spawn-spawn had to sneak that in.
If the left is in fact this desperate, maybe Borepatch is onto something about a Romney win - but I still don't think Romney is outside the margin of cheat...
That is all.
