Feds: Police officer's ghoulish plot no fantasy
NEW YORK — It's a ghoulish tale to rival Hannibal Lecter: A police officer using a law enforcement database creates a list of scores of women he plots to abduct, kill and — in ways he describes in sickening detail — eat.
The federal charges against Gilberto Valle are real. But was his alleged appetite for cannibalism more than fantasy?I've read some of the stories coming out of this. Either this dude is a serious wack-job, and should be locked away for a good long time, or he's one hell of an actor, bucking for a sweet disability pension based on mental disability. At first glance, it sure looks like this guy was a Grade A nutjob, going online to research kidnap methods and talking to folks online about what to do.
But on the other hand, he's also been caught pining for retirement - after having been on the job a whopping 6 years. He's in his 20s, yet is already complaining about the workload, counting down his time to his pension, and otherwise sounding like someone who might game the system. I certainly hope that while they're searching his computer to find out what he was looking for regarding kidnapping that they also look for searches on "disability retirement" and such - my suspicion is that this is a fraud case more than a kidnapping one.
If he's for real, lock him up and send Jodi Foster to talk with him every 20 years...
That is all.
