Git-R-Done...

Well, by the time this posts, I should be arriving at the airport to begin my journey to Colorado. In a very short time, I will either be successfully checked in for my flight, or looking for bail money. Logically, I know that I've got all my bases covered - the case is secured, everything's unloaded, etc. - but there's a small part in the hindbrain that says "ZOMG AIRPORT + GUNS = BAD". There have been enough stories about people doing stupid things at airports involving guns that I'm just a little nervous.

I suspect I'll have a followup as I'm waiting for the plane to take off along the lines of "Well, that was easy" - but if you don't hear from me, someone send bail money, okay? :) In a way it's good that I'm all worked up about this, because otherwise I'd be freaking out about ZOMG BLOGORADO - I'm looking at a weekend of reconnecting with old friends, meeting some new friends for the first time face-to-face, and sharing time on a firing line with folks like Tam and Ambulance Driver.

Maybe I'm better off if they confiscate my firearms...

I've got my digital SLR and my Handycam, and expect to be live- or pseudo- liveblogging a good deal of the events. More than likely I'll wind up jawing and maybe even shooting a bit and the recording part will fall by the wayside - I look at the dwindling number of pictures and video taken at the Fifth Annual Northeast Bloggershoot as evidence of that - but I'll try. I'm certain if there's another round of "Minute of Berm" y'all will hear about it, too.

Anyways, wish me luck - and with any luck in a couple hours there will be an "all set, wish I hadn't worried about that so much" post...

That is all.

Nooo, I don't think so. (grin)

I used to like being the photographer at events, but after a while I noticed I was missing out on a lot because I was either fiddling with the camera or looking for the next shot. I don't think I've seen one of my grandkids blow out their birthday candles outside of a viewfinder yet.

Have fun in Colorado!

You're correct about the Photos. Trigger Time or Picture Time. Decisions, decisions...

BTW, if YOU make the News at the Airport, will you still post my feed? You can get WiFi in the Holding Tank nowadays. ; )

UPDATE: made it through checking in and security with no problems whatsoever. TSA agent was very helpful and professional. No pornoscan or probulation, just good old fashioned magnetometer...

Well, I figured you would gget through unscathed unless you had to deal with one of the few arsehats at TSA, or the airlines. Most people with guns usually get through okay because they are usually responsible folks (except for the politicians and actors who try to dodge the law). Now, I have to wonder, will your plane arrive in Denver or Havana (yes TSA - that was a joke).

Safe travels - sounds like all is going well. Ejnoy your trip and make sure you take time away from the camera to enjoy the shoot! Looking forward to following your updates.

That was my experience checking a firearm through the first time too. All worked up ahead of time and it went just fine. Congrats.

Have a blast after the landing part.

Waitwaitwait. You, Tam, AD, and the Nerds in one place? That's a lot of just barely sub-critical snark masses in one place. I can hear the news report now, "Ladies and Gentlemen, the Mountain Timezone was engulfed today in a cloud of invective. None were spared".

In other words, y'all have fun out there.
:-D
