This. A Thousand Times, This.

Jackie in Texas sent this story in. There's a lesson here.

HPD: Woman Stabs Rapist
HOUSTON - A man is in the hospital with multiple stab wounds to the head after police said he tried to rape a woman.
...
Investigators say the man was trying to rape a woman and during the attack she stabbed him in the head.
"Someone tries to kill you, you try and kill them right back". Refuse to be a victim. Fight back. Fight back as though your life depends on it, because it may very well might. Now, the anti-freedom forces will be silent on this, because it doesn't involve a gun (therefore no gun death), but really, this is what we're talking about.

It's the mindset that says "I will not let this happen to me" that's at work here. There's no information on whether it was her knife or if she took it away from her attacker, but either she armed herself or had the willpower to disarm her attacker - that's a winning mindset either way.

The mindset is the key. The weapon is but a tool. It's a pity that more can't see this; that we have to get wrapped up in discussions on gun control and who should or shouldn't have access to whatever. Guns, knives, etc. are merely tools at the disposal of those who would use them - that there are evil people who would misuse these tools is evidence that good people need them as well, IMHO.

Use the best tools possible - and fight like your life depends on it, because it just might...

That is all.

A friend of mine took a women's self-defense training course. (After some pervert in a suit followed her for three blocks making lewd remarks the entire time.) During training, one of the other women in the class made a bad hit and broke a nail.

The instructor took advantage of the situation to have rest of the class gather around while she explained something. She said, "You hear advice about how you shouldn't fight back, how you should give your attacker whatever he wants so he won't hurt you. You hear statistics about how some percentage of people who fight back are injured." She pointed at the damanged nail. "This counts as an injury in those statistics. Now, are you going to let yourself robbed or raped to avoid breaking a nail?"

she stabbed the perp multiple times in the head. . .

My kind of woman. The only way to top that would be if she gelded him right there and nailed 'em to the wall pour encourager les autres, while ululating like Xena, Warrior Princess.

Knife fight is not Princess Bride Fencing and goes like this: Stab! stab! stab! stab! stab! stab! stab! stab! stab! stab! stab! stab! stab! stab! stab! stab!
"Winner" does it the most-fastest, promoting Loser to be most-leaky...
Call it Metal Pokemon.

SQUEEEEEEEEE!! Self defense stabbings are something that make my beard rustle with delight! I would love this to have been her knife.

NotClauswitz -- Yup.

Just like the "finishing move" my DS taught us was always the same -- the "Fred Astaire" ("Remember, Second Platoon: Always, always, always finish the fight by tap dancing on his face with your combat boots. This tends to calm him right the fuck down, especially after his skull caves in. Hard on the spit shine, but Kiwi's cheap.")

Although in a knife fight, I'm fond of Stab-Draw As Far As Possible-Repeat Until Bored.

Once the knife is already IN him, I can increase the total damage faster with a rip-cut until I exit or hit another bone, and disembowling is a highly effective way to hinder pursuit.
