The Hardest Part Was Steering that Stupid Little Cart...

Oh lordy. I honestly do not understand people sometimes...

DA: NYC workers stole 100,000 tiny booze bottles
NEW YORK — Authorities say workers at New York's Kennedy airport stole 100,000 mini liquor bottles and duty-free items such as larger bottles of liquor, perfume and cigarettes.

Eighteen employees were arrested Wednesday on charges including larceny and possession of stolen property.

I've never understood this. I've never understood why people will throw away a pretty decent gig over a couple hundred bucks of stuff. Oh, sure, they say it was $750K worth of liquor - but that's saying that each 1 oz bottle is $7.50. That might be what the airline charges for the booze, but that's not even vaguely close to the real value - at least an order of magnitude less. Say $75K, split among 18 people - that's $4K per person, roughly. And now they'll never work a job that doesn't require a hair net.

There was a local story a while back about a town manager caught on video stealing change out of a copy machine. For like a grand in dimes this yutz lost his cushy white collar gig and got a handy felony conviction - good luck working for AccounTemps after that! I've never understood why people will throw away everything they've worked for they entire lives for such a small amount. I mean, if you're going to be able to retire to Belize and live like a king, that's one thing. But trash bags filled with nips? Seriously?

You'll never go broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public, I guess...

That is all.

You'll never fail to get elected, either.

Not justifying it by any means, but have you seen the NYC "Sin" Taxes? $7.50 for a one ounce bottle? I pay about that much for a 16 ounce pint here in Ohio Land.

Sorry Jay, but when the City Gooberment under Billionaire Michael Bloomberg just Taxes the Crap out of Everything, things that were once cheap become worth it in Monetary Value to steal.

What's it called when one group holds total control over stuff and charges Exorbitant Prices and punishes those who try to break their Monopoly? Oh, yeah, I remember, it's called "Organized Crime."

There have been studies done that show that the wealthier you are, the more likely you are to steal/pilfer stuff from work. It's the perception of relative value that drives the behavior. If you make 50K/year, you're going to understand that a Coke a day from the company fridge will add up. If you make 500K/year, you see a Coke a day from the company fridge is peanuts.

When I worked store security at a store chain whose name begins with a T we busted a Lt. Col in the Air Force shoplifting about $30 worth of baseball cards.

So, for some cards he thew away his career, retirement, any chance of another government job, and the respect of his community.

Worst part is that he had $50 in his pocket.
