Texas gun range to host children’s birthday parties
A new gun range opening this summer in Lewisville, Texas, will have two rooms available for hosting children's birthday parties. Owner David Prince tells WFAA that the Eagle Gun Range will be available for children as young as eight years old.
"The age limit is eight years old. You have to be tall enough to get above the shooting table," Prince said. "They're not gonna be left unattended. Parents are gonna be one-on-one, or if there's not enough parents we'll have range safety officers here to show them how to do it safely."I think this is a FANTASTIC idea. Children are naturally curious. Having a place where they can safely learn about firearms under proper supervision is the best way to insure that none of these kids will "find" a gun and hurt a playmate or sibling with it. Education is key - they need to be taught that firearms are tools, but dangerous ones that need to be handle with care and caution. When firearms are made out to be some exotic forbidden item, it can have the exact opposite effect in making them all the more curious.
I imagine that the usual suspects will be in a frothing rage at this idea. ZOMG! Children and TEH EVIL GUNZ! Blood in the streets! The last thing they want is a bunch of impressionable kids becoming familiar with firearms - because those kids will realize that firearms are merely tools with no special powers of their own. They won't be as eager to accept the ZOMG GUNZ R BAD message pushed on them by the antis - nor will they be as likely to add any accidental shootings to the list of horrors caused by guns. And they might just learn that shooting is a lot of fun.
Heck, *I* want to have a birthday party at the gun range!
That is all.
