The Supreme Court, in a landmark ruling Thursday, upheld President Obama's health care overhaul, including the controversial requirement that all Americans have health insurance.
The court on Thursday handed Obama a campaign-season victory in rejecting arguments that Congress went too far in requiring most Americans to have health insurance or pay a penalty. After the Assault Weapons Ban of 1994, McCain-Feingold in 2002, and Kelo vs. New London ruling, does this really surprise anyone? Chief Justice Roberts joined the four liberal-leaning judges in ruling for Obamacare, which is rather surprising given the vehemence with which the left opposed him, but then again, he was appointed by a Bush (SOUTER!). I'd like to say this surprised me, but I've also been paying attention the past, oh, 20 or so years.
I'm also going to go out on a limb here and predict that the vote to hold Attorney General Holder in contempt will either not happen or will fail. I don't see the Stupid Party having the stones to proceed with the vote, given that the media push has been largely successful in framing this as a non-story. The average American has the impression that this was a failed ATF operation and nothing more, so there's no need to punish the AG.
Maybe I'm too cynical, but I just don't see it happening - and I've already been right about one vote today...
That is all.
